In the 60s, Indira Gandhi removed what was known as their privy purses. They were given some kind of allowance every year. So, they lost revenue from there. What a lot of them have done is converted them into hotels. Don't forget that although we talk about the colonial legacy, the Rajas also pillaged the common people and that's how they made their wealth.
