The Line Between Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy
Abravanel's ideas seem more at home in the Renaissance, rather than medieval. He seems to be further away from Maimonides' intellectualist approach than Kreskis and Elbow were - yet he presents himself as defending Maimonides against their criticisms. Abravanel insists that Jews are not permitted to disbelieve even the smallest thing in the Torah. Our attitude towards the law should ideally be that of Emunah or faith, by which he means total and unshakeable certainty.
