tyland started playing scrabble at the age of just 13. He says he was obsessed with it and wanted to play internationally. His first international tournament took place in bancok, Australia. It featured some of the world's best players - many who weren't fluent in english. There was a mock up game between him and reigning world champion,. which got rigged when one player fell over on the last time they played each other. They'd also run all the tournaments as exhibition matches for children.
