Webster's Influence on American Copyright Law
Webster was very politically active and was a big part of trying to establish a culture in the early United States. As soon as his first speller was published, Webster also started advocating for copyright laws. After the US Constitution was ratified, taking effect in 1789, Webster also lobbied for a federal copyright law. So in addition to being described as a forgotten founder, Webster is sometimes also called the father of American copyright law.
