I don't know how much of a shock it would be. The odds are that there are like living sentient civilizations out there, or have been at some point or will be somehow. It's not as simple as just saying there's other advanced intelligence that's visiting from another planet. There could be other other weirdness involved that might not be so easy to discuss on a mass scale. If you've accepted that first basic fact that they're here and they're real and they've been here for a while, it's like, well, what have they been doing this whole time? And I don't think we're ready to do that right yet.
