The Appeal of the Pharisees to the Masses
Scholars think that the sectarian groups have their origins in the early second century BCE. Of these three, Josephus presents the Pharisees as the moderate. And so if you were to look towards these groups for leadership, you might end up allying with the Pharisee because they seem to be most moderate in practice.
