Introduction
The French political and intellectual class has a very strong commitment to the founding values of the french republic. The second observation, which is more negative, is that those values are sometimes interpreted in an overly rigid manner. And it makes me recognize just to what extent the courset of beliefs in the nature of tha american republic had eroded long before the different intellectual fevers of the last ten years could come into play.
