The Effects of Antibiotics on Chicken Size
In the 1940s, there was a cod oil shortage. It has this very odd effect of soothing the stomachs of livestock. American farmers were giving their animals 500,000 pounds of antibiotics a year. At this point, the chickens that we eat for the most part today are two to three times the size of what they were before that experiment happened.
