In 1992 we were supposed to recommit to go to Mars, to the moon in Mars, and also complete the International Space Station. In that year what hit me was that none of the stuff had happened. I asked myself, could the government actually open up the space frontier? And it became clear that they could not. The types of real breakthroughs required to open up the greatest frontier ever can't be done any longer in the government's or large corporations.
