Codi inspired teachers strive to make things a kind of betim er practising melodic or rhythmic concepts. We really want to always bring it back to musical material that the kids already know. This doesn't mean it always must connect directly to the student's world, but it should connect to reality. If kids are borrid, it's hard to see engagement.
