The History of Modern Thought Has Been Shaped by the Mycorrhizal Fungus
In the 1860s, someone called Albert Frank coined the term mycorrhizal fungus. He said a new word is needed because we have no word to describe the intimate sharing of bodily space that doesn't imply parasitism or disease. And so symbiosis will describe the full range of possible interactions from parasitism on one hand to mutually beneficial on the other. It's a similar idea to this psilocybin mediated loss of sense of self.
