The British Blows Their Abolition of Slavery in the Cape Colony

The british eventually said, ok, there will be no more slavery in the cape colony. But they were going to compensate far below the market value for a slave. So what a lot of them decided to emigrate further north and deeper into southern africa. And that is where you got these two new republics that eventually became the orange free state and the transfall. The approach the britain took might have made ans financially in the short term when they took this approach, but man, did it have terrible ripple effects.
