The Cycle of Mastery

mastery is a responsive model of teaching. It's kind of like doing one-to-one tuition, but with a class. The teacher is constantly asking questions to find out things that the pupils have gripped or not gripped so that the teacher can act differently. Learning is bloody hard. So the pupil has to understand position in the deal. There's a contract between the teacher and the pupil. The teacher will be expert. The pupil will work really, really hard. And nobody wants to speak about that at all. You get... We've had in England probably 20 years or so now of that conversation being deliberately avoided.
