The Contrast Between the Languages

The US is for a lot of places, just very aggressively monolingual and very aggressively anglophone. There's this idea that particularly for a white American native born, there can be an increase of status from speaking other languages. But even some same people will look at an immigrant and say, Oh, well, they really should learn English.
