Benny Goodman - The King of Swing

Benny goodman was the person most associated with the name, nd he had the name longest. People called him the king of swing before goodman and his band was an absolute force of nature when it came to getting people to do the lindy hop. Goodman's band was bigger in every sense, but webb's band was more popular with those who knew the real deal when they heard it. In 19 37, the savoy hosted a cutting contest between webb's orchestra and goodman's band. Four thousand dancers crowded the inside of the ball room, and despite a police cordon outside to keep trouble down, another five thousand people outside tried to hear what was happening
