Why We Fight and Go to War

I spent about six years in the British Army. Two years of that I spent in southern Afghanistan. And it was really obvious to me that the reasons that we spoke about why we go to war, those things that you were talking about. Why is it that we do this? Is it a problem or is it just human nature? This is what people do. It's definitely human nature. We've also built these cultures around war as well, right, that reinforce that nature. So when we can't answer this fundamental question about humanity, which is why we fight...that makes no sense in evolutionary terms. In evolution, the aim is to survive and reproduce right and humans are animals.
