The Golden Age of Crete
The palace was built in around 1900 to BC. What preceded it was a very long period of occupation because the mound on which the palace sits is a Neolithic tell, which starts much earlier in around 7000 BC. And actually the palace is quite short lived. It lasts for about 600 years before it's destroyed by fire in around 1350 BC. When Evans excavated it became clear that it had never really been ransacked in the past. So he really did find a treasure trove of amazing objects in the palace. We've got so many in the Ashmolean Museum let's go and have a look at a few.
