CHAPTER

Compassion Is a Fundamental Human Trait of All Human Beings

Schopenhauer thinks that all human beings also have a capacity for compassion. And even though its most of the time we're egoists, sometimes were capable of compassionate action. For schopenhauer, he interested in whether compassionate behavior is possible at all. What example he gives is arnold von winklred, who's achly a swiss legendary hero. He throws himself at the enemy in order to enable his comrades to go on to victory. Schopenhauer thinks maybe a cynic could say this is not compassionate, but he thinks that it's certainly very selfless.
