Fred oriented his whole life around the water. The Navy started sending him to the Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai. For a while, he lived on a houseboat called Home in the Channel Islands Marina in Oxmard. He had a little side business there, cleaning the bottoms of sailboats for race days.
