Stereotypes serve the purpose of categorizing people and groups. They're a way to make sense of diversity, dividing the world into desirable and undesirables,. And by otherizing the outgroup, we reinforce the in-group. So stereotypes reflect our ignorance. They put up roadblocks to learning. We often mistake them for facts. But on the bright side, we can learn to recognize stereotypes... unlike many biases.
