It also helps to choose ahead of time, some self coaching phrases. Like just simply say to yourself okay what's happening right now. Or maybe my friend is talking. Are okay I'm being quiet. Or there's time, there's time. What's beyond the words. Can I hear who this person is so coaching phrases that really bring you more fully there. And then watch out for when you're in the situation for the ways that you might leave like rehearsing what you're going to say next or that sense of waiting for the person to be finished and judgment.
