What the Sioux Expansion Showed Was That Monkey Pox Was Not Infectious to Humans
The sioux outbreak demonstrated that crowding, multi species, mixing and stress provided the perfect conditions for the transmission of this and likely other viruses. Early papers describing these outbreaks noted that perhaps monkey pox was simply not infectious to humans. But they did also point out that all the people who had come into contact with infected animals had been vaccinated against small pox.
