Some pharmaceutical therapies for fibromyalgia are actually also used for neurotransmitter balance and the brain's ability to tamp down pain signals. Researchers have even tried low doses of naltrexone, which is prescribed for alcohol use disorder and opioid use disorder. In many studies, cognitive behavioral therapy provided what researchers call worthwhile improvement in pain-related behavior and coping strategies.
