When israel was dragged off into exile 400 years before jesus, they had to re invent judaism. The pharisees started out good, but eventually lost the plot line. Most first century jews thought we are still in exile. How do we get out of it? And the pharis shypothesis was, ok, if all israel were to just keep the tora for one day, just for 24 hours, that would unlock something. That sounds kind o cool, except then the pharisee come along.
