The Cult of the American Dream
A lot of parents project this onto their children and it's the parents wish for them. I think these same motives that drive these power moms to be the ultimate PTA super queen or whatever is they're the exact same things that drive people to join cults. And that's why cults thrive in this country in particular, right? It's like that fraud, instant capitalism, gold rush, manifest destiny. The competition aspect, the delusion, the overly optimistic desire to ascend some sort of hierarchy to show everybody that you're doing an amazing thing in your life. That looks different on different people, but it's cultishness across the board.
