The Fatal Error of Humanity
Rousseau says that it must have been by some fatal error that mankind proceeded out of the stage but one could also read it in the events. The technologies that sort of come along with the fatal error that he's talking about are iron, the cultivation of wheat, and with the written and spoken word. And with these come domination and the advantages gained by dominating. In short, all of the earliest advances that we find at the gates of complex society are responsible for the worst evils of mankind.
