China has actively promoted a strong industrial policy at home, but it's also that they have a very strong demand due to air pollution within their own country. China is actually delivering at a much more strategic pace on the energy transition. But in some countries there's serious pushback against the mining and processing of rare earths. Some of the stories coming out of regions where extraction is already developed are grim. The story you're about to hear appeared in a report by the International NGO Global Witness.
