What's the Biggest Political Achievment in American History?
Tim Stanley: Could you pick an example from the book of like someone who did build a successful majority who was a successful realigner? Like, were there any conditions, too, in some of these cases that seem to reappear again and again. Stanley: Charles Sumner is a great example because he helped build this antebellum or publican party which accomplished what is arguably the single most transformative political achievement in American history with the abolition of slavery. He says it's more the 1860 election that sparks everything that comes after.
