In the early 70s, when I first went into Indonesia, it had potential of a lot of oil. It also was the largest country in the world with a Muslim population. They were using this as leverage to get U.S. companies to hire American companies. And we had ways of legally, legally, the United States sends bribing people. But they still see GDP as the standard measurement.
