Law and ethics could develop among the greeks as human wisdom, free and yet in harmony with the god. More important than individual morality is continuity, which depends on solidarity. Whoever crosses a certain boundary or lays a branch on a certain altar is doomed to die. In greek popular morality, this appears as the basic code, honor the gods and honor one's parents.
