Is the Modern Synthesis Really a Synthesis?
evolutionary biology is constantly re inventing, remaking itself. The modern synthesis has been argued very convincingly by different people. But the striking thing about this extended synthesis is that it's just a bunch of disconnected concepts thrown together. And i'm not saying there are lots of excellent people in this movement that do excellent empirical and theoretical work on their specific problems. I think the underlying problem is exactly that th the synthetic approach is completely wrong for an area where you are looking at a causale thicket plus a thicket.
