The Filibuster and Minority Rights
Senators who invoke the tradition of minority rights tend to be those with the most structural power in the system. The framers were primarily focused on letting the minority have their say, but not necessarily leting the minority have its way. And i think that that is one of the problems of our current debate about this - it's essentially in defence of allowing the minority to impose its will on the majority.
