What your protagonist wants and needs will be determined by your story's content genre. For example, if you're writing an action story, they'll want to defeat or stop the antagonist so that they can restore their sense of agency. If you couple that with an internal worldview arc, your protagonist will need to update their outdated worldview in order to defeat or stopped the antagonist. So look at this question of what does your protagonist want and need through the lens of your content genre or genres. Then take the generic wants and needs that your genre provides and make it more specific to your story.
