The decision to make the fanganui a legal person was not motivated by conservation, but reconciliation. What they'd come up with could have implications for climate change and a lot else. It's about in about nature as something other than someone's private property,. what if it's got its own interests that might have nothing to do with human beings? Nature, after all, was around for billions of years before we showed up. I think it's a really significant mind shift that is taking place.
