There were efforts very early on to try and control him through sex. He was targeted by a blackmail ring tied up with the UK aristocracy that had previously just a few years before brought down the British government of Harold McMillan Through what is known today as the Profima affair, they tried to end Cold War hostilities. A lot of parallels between some of the stuff you see more in this country than others.
