The Effect of Physical Touch on the Nervous System

A child between the age of zero months and three months, if it isn't given continual physical being physically touched, the nervous system quite simply just fails. And at a biological level, the baby needs to be biologically valued and witnessed and recognized. The next tier up from that is physical contact. But then there's the idea of being mirrored that a child won't learn emotional literacy, such as empathy, unless it exchanges through the act of mirroring with an adult.
