The entire northern coast of Africa fell under the Empire's sway. The entirety of the Iberian Peninsula, today's Spain and Portugal, was a Roman possession. Hadrian's Wall ran from the river Tyne in the east to the Soway Firth along the Irish Sea. Back on the continent, the border ran from the North Sea through the southwestern corner of the Netherlands.
