The Fear of a Mother Whale
A lifeguard said it was good she was heading back to shore. It wasn't safe for her to be out so far. A commercial fishing boat had seen a solo whale only a half mile south of the pier. Full size gray whales can be 30 tons and 50 feet long. They're sometimes called devil fish in the 1800s after destroying whaling boats whose harpooners had killed their calves.
