Liver was considered the seed of life, and by examining the liver they would do divination oracle-like things based on the condition of the liver. Blood offerings far more often than people want to admit were human sacrifices. So in any way that relationship between sacrifice, the conscious awareness of the great powers, and the awareness of synchronicity events through that contact.
