Nature's Publishing Process Without Referees

A well into the twentieth century, nature was publishing articles that had not gone through a refereing process. A probably the most famous paper that nature has ever printed, the 19 53 a double helic structure by james watson and francis crick, was never refereed. They tend to trust people who they view as experts to recommend good papers to them. If the head of the cavendish laboratory tells brimble and gale that this paper is good, they're probably just going to print it without really investigating further. That's kind of what peer review is s i been peer review is something that was still very much in development.
