The Rise and Fall of Muhammad

In 622, Muhammad had what was known as the Hijra, or the escape, or fleeing from Mecca. He traveled 200 miles to the Oasis settlement of Yathrib, which was later to be known as the city of Medina. The delegation of 12 tribes asked Muhammad to serve as an arbitrator. And it was from here that he apparently ascended into heaven and then conversed with God.
