Violence and Injustice in Jacarezinho

This chapter reflects on a visit to Jacarezinho, a favela in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting its historical significance and current struggles. It examines the devastating impact of police raids on marginalized communities, revealing the stark differences in societal attitudes toward law enforcement between affluent and impoverished areas. Through personal stories, it illustrates the normalization of violence against Black individuals in Brazil and discusses the challenges of activism and accountability amidst systemic racism.
