Tolstoy's Marriage With Sophia
Tolstoy was addicted to sex, and hated himself for it. The longer he was married the more that hatred bled over on to his wife. His shame seems only to have increased with age. At 60, he wrote of sex with sophia, it was so disgusting, i felt i'd committed a crime. He may once have hoped marriage would be a way to bring his sexuality into a more natural context.
