Aristotle's Principles of Extravagance
Aristotle has a moral philosophy where he often says that the most desirable character trait is a sort of mean between two extremes. He actually does praise in a way extravagance, but condemns miserliness. Magnificence requires you to be one of the very wealthy; parsimoniousness means not putting so much value on money. What's in the middle is something like someone who provides funds for worthy causes.
