The Importance of Federalism

Federalism reflects a division of authority in government such that the central government doesn't have all of the authority or decision-making power. Many states are giving or delegating power to localities, and certainly, localities are doing the administration of many policies. And so this distribution of power of responsibility, of authority across levels of government is really the hallmark of federalism.
