Dr. Peter Svidio has been investigating the safety of dietary supplements for years. The fda estimates that 20,000 or more people a year end up in the emergency department due to supplements and thousands are hospitalized. There is no requirement that a supplement has been tested in humans to figure out it has anyhlp facts, whatoever. So when we buy things that are labelled as drags in the us, we know that they have gone through multiple trials to insure that they are safe and effective. And supplements do not have to jump through the same kinds of hoops just like con s on other products. We don't need to understand that the labels are accurate and work as advertised
Millions of Americans take dietary supplements — everything from vitamins and minerals to weight loss pills and probiotics. But because supplements are loosely regulated in the US, their makers don't have to prove that they work, or even that they are safe.
