The Myth of the German Army
A myth that rose up in Germany following the Treaty of Versailles helped set the stage for Hitler and the Nazis rise to power. The German high command led by Henin Berg and Ludendorff censored all news about the war that was released in Germany itself. They didn't want to admit defeat on the battlefield, so they came up with the idea that they had been betrayed by the civilian authorities instead. It should have been a clearly false narrative, but the problem with regard to the German people is that they knew nothing of the defeats on the battlefield.
