How to Separate the People From the Problem

Real conflict is outside of people's heads, the space in between the heads. As useful as being objective about a problem is, it will get you nowhere if you can't see the world through the other person's eyes. The most valuable skill that anybody as a negotiator can have is to learn how to view the world as the other person sees it. Now you don't have to agree with their point of view, but you have to be able to understand their points of view.
