Having a Mental Illness Makes You Quirky
A lot of people with mental illness aren't very functional. They think that having a mental illness makes them quirky and substitutes for a personality. Freddie pats himself on the back because he has an uncompromising commitment to taking his psychiatric problem seriously warts and all, and not glossing over the negative aspects. It's really hard not to do the special snowflake thing in some way or another. Prudence consists of doing it in ways that don't step on other people's toes, wildly contradict reality or make society worse off.
