Grief in the Basement

Grief also can move around, come in and out of us for many different factors. It reminds me of a young man that came into analysis many, many years ago. And in his first dream, he discovered a woman who was weeping in his basement. In part, it was his mother's grief. So sometimes we can as children take upon ourselves some of the psychological material and depressive temperaments of our caregivers. When the mother is in grief as in the story of Demeter, the whole world can be blighted,. Because the great mother allows things to sprout and flourish and fruit. But when the mother is caught in grief, the entire world is put at risk.
